From campus clubs to community events, there are plenty of ways to explore a new language and culture, meet people, and get to know the local region.
Here are a few ways to get involved:
Annual International Latino Film Festival
The Annual Latino Film Festival is being held at The Minor Theater, February 24, 25, & 26th from 6:00 p.m. to 10:20 p.m. The festival is free to the general public and students enrolled in SPAN/ HIST/ ES 396 courses. Students and the general public are invited to view three outstanding films relating to the theme “Women, Power, & Politics” in the following order:
Monday, February 24th: La Historia Oficial (1985)
After the end of the Dirty War in Argentina, a high school teacher sets out to find out the identity of her adopted daughter’s biological mother.
Tuesday, February 25th: In the Time of the Butterflies (2001)
Based on Julia Alvarez's novel, depicting the true story of the Mirabal sisters, Dominican revolutionary activists who bravely opposed the brutal dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo, ultimately leading to their assassination in 1960.
Wednesday, February 26th : La Llorona (2019)
A country’s bloody history stains the present in the Guatemalan auteur Jayro Bustamante’s transfixing fusion of folk horror and searing political commentary, inspired by the real-life indictment of the authoritarian Efraín Ríos Montt for crimes against humanity.

Parlez-vous français? For beginning, intermediate, and advanced French speakers. Drop by if you want to learn, teach, or just enjoy some company.
Meetings are Fridays in the Behavioral and Social Sciences Building, Room 209. Please call (707) 826-3226 for times. Coffee, tea, and snacks provided. Feel free to bring something to share.
Spanish Translation and Interpretation Club
For students from all majors who are interested in the ways Spanish and English are translated from text to text and interpreted from speakers to audiences. The club provides translation and interpretation services to individuals and community organizations from schools and businesses to nonprofits. All students are welcome, from beginners to bilingual speakers. This is a perfect club to enrich one’s Spanish and English speaking and writing skills.
